It´s considered the kind of tourism that generate the least possible impact on the environment and local culture of the place you are visiting, while helping to generate income and employment for local people.
Also referred as Responsible Travel, UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) defines it as "Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities".
Why practice Sustainable Tourism?
To promote experiences where the visitor can identify the natural, social and cultural value of the destination visited. It creates the possibility to relate in a more direct and genuine way with the local population, producing a cultural exchange (from locals to visitors and vice versa).
